Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) and Earthquake Soft-Story (ESS) retrofit grant programs are available only for qualified homes in select ZIP Codes. New areas are added with every program year, as additional funding allows.
How are CRMP Grant Program ZIP Codes Selected?
ZIP Codes for California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP) grants are selected based on:
- Areas of highest seismicity (frequency of earthquakes) using the United States Geological Survey earthquake hazard map for California,
- Areas with a high number of homes built before1980 that have raised foundations (EBB program)
- Areas with a high number of homes built before 2000 that have a living space over the garage (ESS program)
- For ESS only: where a local building department was willing to accept the use of the prescriptive plan sets in FEMA P-1100, which are the construction plan sets used for ESS retrofits.
This selection process was approved by the CRMP Governing Board.
